The event was won by Marco Willberg (Pickala) thanks to an awesome second round of 66 which included 9 birdies. The Fream course does not give up a good score very easily so Marco's round in windy conditions was really an achievement. His 66 was the lowest round of the weekend by SEVEN shots and helped him to a 6 shot win, his third victory from 5 events in 2013, and made it mathematically certain that he would be the top ranked player on the Mid Tour for 2013.
Niko Helin was the leading Kytäjä player in this event, he played two good rounds of 77 and 76 to finish in a tie for 8th place, his best result of the season. Other Kytäjä results were as follows Sampo Laisi T43rd (85,80), Petri Syrjänen (84,82) and Andy Fowlie (82,84) both T48th, Riku Roine (88,86) T71st and Jouko Hartikainen (91,91) T86th.
The ladies event was won by former Kytäjä player Gitta Kauppi after her rounds of 86 and 78 left her sevon shots ahead of her closest competitor. Kytäjä was represented by Katja Nurmi who finished in 24th place.
It's much easier to write the story of your competition when you have a decent score... but in this case there was not a single good thing to come from the weekend. I skipped the Audi Tour event at Master golf to play in this Mid Tour event in the hope that I could finally play a decent round at Nordcenter... but instead I played some of my worst golf of the year.
On the first day I had some difficulties with my swing and also did not have the needed touch around the greens. I was not particularly in the mood after heavy rain at the beginning and an excess of early dropped shots but I kept going as well as I could before three putting the last two holes, which made sure that I was really out of the competition. As it turned out everyone was already out of the competition because Marco Willberg was about to play an unbelievable second round.
In the second round I hit the ball a bit more solidly but still could not hole a thing... and after a double bogey on the 7th took me to 6 over for the round I pretty much lost interest and did not do a very good job of managing my game after that.
Last weekend I did a whole lot of things right when playing on the Audi Tour... but this weekend I did even more things totally wrong. Thats how it goes... next weekend is the club championship and a chance to get back on track.
