After 36 holes at Rosapenna to "warm up" for the final the group headed for Portstewart, a course which featured a fantastic and unique front nine, as good as any links course anywhere, with a back nine that was perfectly fine, but not on the same level as the outward nine.
After the first hole, where Andy three-putted after leaving his second shot the wrong side of the huge mound on the right side of the green, Tuomo enjoyed a one shot lead. Andy's long par putt on the 4th brought them level again before Tuomo holed a 15m birdie putt on the 7th to take the lead again. A bogey on the 8th brought the players level again before a birdie on the 9th by Andy gave him a one shot advantage with 9 holes to play. Janne Laine had a series of disasters on the 4th hole to end his challenge while Petri Ahokas played an extremely exciting round, first droppping 5 shots in 4 holes and then picking up 4 shots in the following 5 holes.
Andy's lead did not last very long with a terrible tee shot into the bushes on the par 5 10th leading to an ugly 7... but when he made a good birdie on the difficult 13th the tournament was tied again with each player +1 for the day and three over for the tournament.
The 14th hole, a long par 3 over a deep gully, was the hole where the lead changed for the final time. Andy's terrible tee shot with a 5 iron, topped into the gully (never to be seen again), led to a double bogey - allowing Tuomo to take the lead. After completing the final 4 holes with relatively straight forward regulation pars, Tuomo was the winner thanks to two rounds of 74 with Andy in second place (74-76) and Petri Ahokas finishing 3rd, five shots further behind.
Congratulations to Tuomo!
