The Players Tour event at Nordcenter was decided in a playoff between Antti Pasanen (Pickala) and Petri Lehto (HGK), Antti eventually managing to seal victory with a birdie on the second playoff hole.
Kytäjä were well represented in the standings, Andy Fowlie was 3rd and Petri Syrjänen was 9th. The 5th event of the 2015 Mid Tour was played on the difficult Nordcenter Fream course on the hottest weekend of the summer so far. As usual the course got the better of many players with only 36 scores under 80 from the 194 rounds played. Keijo Jaakola, a winner on the Mid Tour earlier in the year at Espoo GS (and on many other occasions), had a fantastic start to the event, birdieing his first two holes before holing from 80m for an eagle on his 3rd hole. He kept the momentum going, despite a double bogey, to finish with an excellent opening round of 70 and hold a 4 stroke lead. Bradley Hennier from Vuosaari and Andy Fowlie from Kytäjä each scored 74 to share second place with Petri Lehto, Timo Tuunanen and Jyri Siivonen a stroke further behind after rounds of 75. Andy's round was rather the opposite of Keijo's as he recovered from a terrible start (two double bogeys in the first 5 holes). In the final round most of the chasing players struggled on the first nine but Timo Tuunanen managed to go out in 36 (one under par) while Keijo and Andy had exactly the same score on each hole (rather unusually) to record matching front nine's of level par 37. This left Keijo with a 4 stroke lead over Timo and Andy with nine holes to play and that proved to be just enough as he survived some difficult moments during the final nine to finish with a round of 75 and a one shot victory over Timo who played the best round of the day, a fine 71 with Andy 2 shots further behind in 3rd place after second successive round of 74. A good weekend for Kytäjä was completed by Petri Syrjänen's excellent 11th place finish, his best ever Mid Tour result, after rounds of 76 and 80. Kytäjä are in a strong position in the team rankings and will qualify once again for the Mid Team SM at Aulanko towards the end of the season. The updated Mid Tour rankings show that Petri Lehto, winner of the Matchplay championship and bronze medalist in the strokeplay championship, retains his place at the head of the rankings but with Keijo Jaakola narrowing the lead as he moved up to 2nd place. For Kytäjä Andy Fowlie is in 5th place, Niko Helin 15th, Petri Syrjänen 31st and Riku Roine 43rd. The mid tour concludes at Pickala in September. Andy's comments about the event: I have never had any success whatsoever at Nordcenter, actually my 5 worst scoress in Finland have all come on that Fream course, and my best score on the course before this weekend was a 79... so this weekend was something of an improvement. |
