T55 Jouko Hartikainen +12 (83)
The Finnish tour kicked off its 2014 season at Vanajanlinna this week and the event was won by Miki Kuronen after he tied with Jani Perttilä and Tatu Toivo on a total of 216, level par. Kytäjä player Henri Lahdenperä made the cut comfortably after two rounds of 73 and ended up in a tie for 29th place, a decent start to the season! Here is what Henkka had to say about the event: Moi kaikille! Pelasin ekan kisani Linna Golfissa sijoitus oli T29 ja tässä vähän päivistäni! :) Veli-Pekka Hakala was also representing Kytäjä in this competition but unfortunately he missed the cut after rounds of 83 and 90.
The 2014 Mid Tour season opened this weekend with the men playing at Vuosaari and the ladies playing at Peuramaa. The rounds at Vuosaari were played in blazing sunshine and temperatures around 26 degrees on both days, with just enough wind to make things tricky. The greens were quite good for the time of year but there seemed to be variation in speed from green to green which added another variable to the calculations. Some of the pin positions were also pretty nasty, especially on Sunday, the most difficult being the 16th where it was impossible to get the ball to stay anywhere near the hole on the approach shot. The competition was won, once again, by former European Tour player Mika Piltz (Pickala). Mika's rounds of 73 and 69 were good enough for a two shot victory over Jani Michelsson of St Laurence (74,70) with 2012 Mid Tour Rankings winner Keijo Jaakkola (Tapiola Golf) in 3rd place (75,70). Niko Helin managed the best result of the Kytäjä players with a very creditable 5th place finish thanks to rounds of 75 and 74. Niko's card looked quite steady, with many pars... but according to eye-witnesses there was a lot of excitement along the way when making those pars. Niko described the round as "fighting all day". Andy Fowlie was the second best of the Kytäjä players, his rounds of 77 and 76 were good enough for 12th place. This is what Andy had to say about his weekend... That was quite a struggle... pretty inconsistent ball-striking all weekend and not too many parts of my game felt comfortable at all. Both rounds were a real struggle from beginning to end and there was a lot of messy holes out there... there were also some good moments, especially some real "get out of jail" par saves. Sampo Laisi finished in a tie for 33rd place after two rounds of 80 (+16) but was on target for much lower scores before struggling on the last 6 holes in each round... for holes 1 to 12 he was 3 over par but for holes 13 to 18 he was 13 over. The double bogeys that Sampo had on the 18th in each round caused him to comment that his mental capabilities did not seem to match his physical capabilities. Riku Roine finished in a tie for 65th place after a tough "birdie free" weekend and Petri Syrjänen could not recover from a nightmare start (+10 after five holes) and missed the cut by two shots.
The next Finnish Mid Tour event is in 3 weeks time at Meri-Teijo but the week before that a number of Finnish players (and one Scottish one!) will take part in the EGA European Mid-Amateur Championship at Pravets GC in Bulgaria. Niko and Andy will be there representing Kytäjä. The first event on the Tsemppi Tour in 2014 was played at Sea Golf Rönnäs and was won by Oscar Darlington from Vuosaari with a fine score of 78.
Kytäjä's Teemu Hartikainen was 37th. The first event of the 2014 Haastajakiertue was played at Ruukkigolf on the 18th May. The format for these events is different for 2014 as the events are now played over 18 holes (previously it was 36 holes in one day).
The first event was won by Iiro Eskelinen of Kymen Golf but Kytäjä's Sami Kaunismäki made an excellent recovery from two front-nine double bogeys to finish in 4th place! Veli-Pekka Hakala, one of our excellent caddiemasters, was 73rd. |
