The end of May means that we have results for the first kuukausikilpailu, a new leader in the KCT order of merit and also that the matchplay competition entries have closed.
The beginning of June means that we have new possibilities - there are two more kuukausikilpailu rounds to play, the draw for the matchplay events has been made, the ladies eclectic events have begun and there are also more KCT events to play in over the next few weeks.
Looking firstly at the kuukausikilpailu, May has been a great success. When we were thinking what to expect a few weeks ago we had in mind that there would be at least 30 players in May... as the days went by we started to hope for 40... then dream of 50... in the end there were 59 scores returned in the event! This was a really encouraging sign.
The kuukausikilpailu has so far been notable for quality as well as quantity. The winning score was very healthy, the top 10 all scored 36 points or more and 31 players managed to get at least 30 points. When you consider the effect that the long winter has on both the course and the players, this was a great standard of play.
This month's leading player, with a handsome score of 40 points, was Sami Kaunismäki. Congratulations to Sami! Sami was followed by Laura Haimakainen who had a great score of 38 points and four more players who managed 37 points. The top ten players (shown below) all earned KCT points for their efforts with the 100 KCT points that Sami earned propelling him straight to the top of the KCT Order of Merit!
While we are on the subject of the KCT, there will be a whole lot of KCT points available in June... and plenty of opportunities for you to wipe the smile off Sami's face by cruising past him in the KCT Order of Merit.
A new month means a new round in the kuukausikilpailu... or actually two new rounds as in June, July and August there is a kuukausikilpailu event on each course every month. Each of these rounds counts for the KCT so you can win 200 KCT points in June from the kuukausikilpailu alone!
In addition to this there are also two open competitions during June which count for the KCT. There is the GameBook Open on the 9th of June and the Euronics Hyvinkää Open on the 10th of June. Why not enter and boost your position in the KCT Order of Merit!
The KCT event calendar for the year is shown below.
The beginning of June also signifies the start of all the Kytäjä matchplay events. The draw for these events has now been made and can be seen from golfbox... or from the relevant pages in this site (Miesten Tasoituksellinen Reikäpeli, Naisten Tasoituksellinen Reikäpeli, Nelipallo Cup, Reikäpeli Cup, Miesten Reikäpelimestaruus).
I am extremely happy to see so many people signing up for this years matchplay events.
Last year our events attracted a total of 43 entries and this caused a total of 27 matches to be played before the winners were decided. This year we have a total of 125 entries and 93 matches will need to be played in order to bring the competitions to a conclusion. This is a huge improvement.
Looking at the record turnout for the Avajaiskisa, the popularity of the kuukausikilpailu and the great response to the matchplay competitions - I would say that competition golf at Kytäjä looks healthier than ever before.
Enjoy the competitions!
