Off the course this has been a distracting time, as some of you might know I am (still) a Nokia employee and the recent news for the company has hardly been positive. The latest changes will affect many of my colleagues and friends directly and increase the pressure on activities across the company. I will be glad of the summer holiday for a chance to get away from work as much as for the chance to spend more time on the golf course.
On the course it has also been a very busy time... I have been trying to play all the events from the Audi Tour and the Mid Tour as well as playing in as many KCT events as possible, trying to improve my eclectic score, practicing and getting lessons from my coach (Nigel Miller at Kurk Golf). This week I also have my first two Kytäjä matchplay matches of the year to add to the schedule.
Now that my excuses are out of the way, time to get down to business!
The first thing I want to remind everyone about is the kuukausikilpailu... so far this month there have been 13 entrants on the NW course and 14 on the SE course... this is much fewer than last month where we had 59 participants. Remember, the kuukausikilpailu is one of the most significant events (in terms of available ranking points) in the KCT calendar... why not play your rounds during this week!
The second thing I would like to mention is the reikäpeli competitions. Some matches have already been played but the majority of the first round matches are still unresolved. I am sure that many of you have already arranged your matches for the coming days (e.g. I have two matches during this coming week) but if you have not yet agreed a time with your opponent(s) then it is high time to do it, all the first round matches must be played by 8th July.
My next topic is the mens eclectic... this is proving to be very successful with 28 players already participating and 119 cards so far returned to the card box in the mens locker room. So far I am managing to hold on to the lead in the scratch eclectic but I have now been caught in the handicap competition by Hannu Haimakainen and Juhani Voutiliainen. There is still a very long way to go in that competition and it could be that the eventual winners have not even entered yet... you can play your first round at any time by leaving a card in the box, come and join the fun!
Finally, looking to the upcoming events, there is a packed schedule over the next few weeks. There will be many hundreds of KCT points given out in the next 14 days with the two June kuukausikilpailu results, Antti's Scratch and the Sven Tumba Open... while every matchplay match that you can win will increase your haul of KCT points in those competitions. It's all to play for!
Enjoy the competitions!
