This is always an exciting day, with many twists and turns before the champion is crowned. Last years event was a great example where Adam Scott looked totally in control... until he made a bit of a mess on the difficult finishing holes and allowed Ernie Els to lift the claret jug once again. This year Ernie will be a double defending champion, he won last year and he also won in 2002 when the event was last played at Muirfield.
This year we have a chance to get involved in the action on this final day by playing in the first "Kytäjä Major Event" on Sunday the 21st July. This event is a fun team competition, where each team is made up of four players who play at Kytäjä, and one who plays at Muirfield, in that sense it is like a pro-am for the open championship!
How does this work in practice? Well, you enter as a team of four players (inform the caddiemaster, as usual) and then you play your round starting in the late morning at Kytäjä, your team is assigned (at random) a player from the final round at Muirfield, and your total score is made up of the team score plus the score of your player at Muirfield.
The action from Muirfiled will be shown in the clubhouse on a big screen so that all players in the event can watch the conclusion of the Open after their round (and cheer on the player that is playign for their team).
This should be a really enjoyable event, I hope that many of you will sign up for this social occasion and help to build the spirit of our golf club!
Kytäjä Juniori Haastekilpailu 10.7.2013
The event has not attracted as many entries as we would have hoped for, despite quite a bit of advertising. Currently there are 22 entries (i.e. 11 pairs). This is a little disappointing, especially after the high volume of requests to "do something for the juniors" which were submitted in the last members survey. I would be interested to hear from any member about why this event did not interest them, perhaps there is somehting that we can learn in order to do better in future. Please feel free to contact me on this subject.
The Kytäjä Cup 18.7.2013
This is a great opportunity to experience team golf and to see how your game responds, some players seem to find their very best golf when put into a team situation (e.g. Poulter in the Ryder Cup)... perhaps you are one of those players!
Contact the caddiemaster to add your name to the entry list for this event.
That's it for now!
